A substantial soap dish handmade from petrified wood, with a smoothly polished upper surface and raw, naturally irregular edges. Its dark brown and black mineral colouring gives every piece the appearance of an ancient collected object shaped for contemporary use.
A shallow depression in the centre helps hold a bar of soap securely, while the considerable weight keeps the dish stable beside a basin, bath or kitchen sink. The contrast between the polished surface and unfinished outer edge makes it equally effective as a small tray for jewellery or carefully gathered objects.
Petrified wood is formed when the original organic material is gradually replaced by minerals. The resulting surface retains the character of wood while having the weight and durability of stone.
Each soap dish is individually made from natural material. Colour, mineral pattern, edge shape and exact proportions will vary considerably, and individual pieces may be completely black or contain a mixture of black and brown tones. These differences are part of the character of the product rather than imperfections.
